Before departments close, the Post has pledged to assess each department's request, population in the neighborhood and take into account the distance to another post office.
“We will not close any post offices at this time until there is clarity about what this network of offices will look like in Latvia as a whole. Will all be physical offices of the Latvian Post, or will they possibly be our employees who will be located in some other premises and provide these services,“ said Beāte Krauze-Čebotare, Chairm of the Latvian Postal Service.
The new concept will be developed and presented in April.
At least for now, 176 post offices will continue their work. The previous plan was to close more departments than preserve. But over 60 post offices have already closed in the last two years. The most departments were closed in Zemgale and Latgale. Some have been closed very recently, already counting on the reform that has been suspended.
