20th birthday for Saulkrasti Jazz festival

July 13 will see the opening of the 20th Saulkrasti Jazz festival that sees the sunny seaside town of Saulkrasti fill with often polyrhythmic waves of sound. The festival famously features workshops for aspiring musicians, interspersed with performances by world-renowned virtuosos.

The festival kicks off in Rīga however at the Riga Central Station stage at 5 p.m. on July 13.

Next week it take off in Saulkrasti where it will see Baltic, European, African and American performers take the stage with Mozambica's Jimmy Dludlu as the star performer.

Three integral parts make up the festival's structure: a young jazz performers' camp, the Baltic Drummers' League contest as well as the closing concert.
