Baltic 'new music' hits the airwaves

To mark the 25th anniversary of the historic milestone Baltic Way human chain of 1989, Latvian Public Radio (LR) youth channel Pieci.lv has offered listeners the first-ever Baltic new music channel baltic.pieci.lv.

Curated in collaboration with trendy independent Baltic music platform The Baltic Scene, the channel intends to popularize and promote new music from the region as a Baltic export product.

Together with their Estonian-based Baltic Scene colleagues, Pieci.lv will supplement the playlists with the most interesting discoveries from the three Baltic countries, not just for local music-loving residents, but also for foreign music industry scouts.

According to Pieci.lv music director Toms Grēviņš, the channel is the first internet radio station in the world where the best-known pop music from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia can be heard in one place.

“By listening to this Baltic new music channel, anyone interested in the scene can get a good glimpse into its main trends and find out what’s hot!”, Grēviņš told LSM.

The Baltic new music channel is webcasting already at Baltic.pieci.lv, as well as through the Pieci.lv mobile app on smartphones and tablets.

Latvian Radio 5 – Pieci.lv is LR’s commercial-free public radio targeted for the youth audience. It brings together diverse lifestyle and opinion leaders, creating a public platform for various subcultures to grow and develop.

Listeners are also invited to follow special broadcasts and activities dedicated to the quarter-century anniversary of the Baltic Way on the Pieci.lv Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Draugiem.lv social networking sites.
