Centenary celebrations to cost €60 million

The total cost of the various events marking the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Latvia in 2017-2021 will amount to €59,075,947, according to the Culture Ministry's report on the 100th anniversary celebrations plan for 2017-2021 that the government will review this week.

The amount also includes some events that are held on a regular basis and would have taken place anyway, for instance, €6.5 million necessary for the organization of the National Song and Dance Festival in 2018 has been included in the total amount of the 100th anniversary celebration cost for that year, as the culture minister's public relations advisor Ginta Bormane told the LETA newswire.

The report says that there are several sources of financing for the program - the state budget, municipal financing, international financing, as well as support from investors and the general public. The total amount of state budget allocations for the program is currently estimated at €32,236,000, or just over half the total.
