Latvia puts up a good fight at Eurobasket

Take note – story published 8 years ago

On Tuesday, Latvia suffered a defeat against France (70:84) in the Eurobasket quarterfinal game. Before, Latvia had upset Slovenia with 73:66 and advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2001, making this a quite successful Eurobasket run for Latvia.

Kristaps Janičenoks scored 16 points for Latvia, while France's Tony Parker pulled France ahead when the game was still even, scoring a nine-in-a-row at a crucial moment of the game and finishing with 18 points.

While France advances to the semi final, Latvia will have to work to get into the Olympics qualification round.

On Thursday, Latvia will play Greece for the 5th place, and a different team for the 7th place in case Greece comes out on top.

The last time Latvia's basketball team played in the Olympics was in 1936.
