Latvian luminaries receive civil honors

The Latvian Chapter of Orders on October 20, 2017 bestowed Latvia's highest civil award, the Order of Three Stars, on several cultural luminaries. 

The recipients of Latvia’s highest civil honor were leading boxer Mairis Briedis, composer Uldis Marhilevics and actresses Guna Zarina and Dita Lurina-Egliena with Latvia’s highest state decoration, the Order of Three Stars for special merits, according to a statement published in the official gazette Latvijas Vestnesis.

The Latvian Chapter of Orders decided to confer the Order of the Three Stars, Third Class, to Briedis, and he will become the Commander of the Order. Marhilevics will be decorated with the Order of Three Stars, Fourth Class, and will become the Officer of the Order.

Among recipients of the Order of Three Stars, Fourth Class, will be Ieva Iltnere, the associate professor at the Latvian Academy of Art, Skaidrite Lasmane, a leading researcher at the Faculty of Social Sciencers of the University of Latvia, painter Dace Liela, composer Ugis Praulins, as well as actresses Lurina-Egliena and Zarina and others.
