Literature magazine closes over accounting violations

Take note – story published 8 years ago

The Latvian-language literature magazine Latvju Teksti (Latvian Texts) saw its last issue published Monday, the magazine announced on Facebook.

In September 2015 the Latvian Literature Center (LLC) came under scrutiny over accounting violations. As a result, the Culture Ministry and the Culture Capital Fund (VKKF) requested that the organization return funds totaling to about €80,000.

The editor's note in the last issue read that, although funds had been granted for publishing the magazine in 2016, it was established that the accounts of the magazine were used in LLC's violations, so the funding was subsequently revoked.

The editors moved to another publisher and asked for funding from the VKKF again, however the decision was negative by one vote.

The magazine was published since 2010, featuring both local and translated literature in six yearly publications.
