Take note – story published 6 years ago

An estimated 100,000 people took to the streets of Riga to see in 2018 on January 1.

The figure came from Riga City Council, which had organized a concert an fireworks to accompany the revels.

Televised speeches by Prime Minister Maris Kučinskis and Raimonds Vējonis also stressed that 2018 will be a special year as November 18 will mark one hundred years since the foundation of the Latvian Republic.

If you couldn't make it in person you can listen to the national anthem and see the fireworks above.

Happy new year.
