Three for the Weekend: Bleak-end

With Saturday being the only weekend day with little rain and a bit more sun in the forecast, this "bleak-end" LSM suggests soothing your soul with classical music, films and delightful urban survival techniques.

Kremerata Baltica

The 14th annual Kremerata Baltica classical music festival dedicated to superb violinist Gideons Krēmers is taking place September 14-17 at the Dzintari Concert Hall in Jurmala.

Three concerts with local and foreign stars including mandolin player Avi Avital and harpsichord player Reinut Tepp are taking place over the weekend, so you have plenty to choose.

Riga International Film Festival

The 2017 Riga International Film Festival concludes this weekend with ongoing screenings and awards being handed for the best Baltic feature films.

More than 120 films are being showcased throughout the festival at three movie houses on Elizabetes street.

Survival Kit

The ninth iteration of Survival Kit is still ongoing. The festival, organized by the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art, was born in 2009 as a reaction to the austerity caused by the economic crisis and has since continued to invite people to respond to changes taking place in the modern-day world and to reflect on various 'survival' strategies.

This year the festival has the bizarre title: “Becoming an Apricot * an Apple * a Crow * a Tree * a Cockroach * a Glacier * a Plant * a Mushroom * a Shell * a Bird * Algae ”, and will be directed towards the broadening of perceptions of and learning from nature.
