Three for the Weekend: church, dance, art

Take note – story published 7 years ago

Three things to do in coming days.

1) Get me to the church on time

Dozens of churches (145 to be precise) of all denominations open their doors through the night on Friday June 10 for Church Night with many hosting special concerts, performances and exhibitions for the occasion.

It's a great way of seeing the insides of churches you might not normally visit and with a bit of planning you can see lots of free concerts in one evening. The excellent website has details of all participating churches and events.

2) Let's dance!

The Time to Dance festival has already started but it runs all weekend with a series of performances, masterclasses and more. It's a must for anyone with an interest in contemporary dance and choreography and has events at various locations across Riga.

3) Art and craft

Modern art enthusiasts will enjoy the opening of the second stage of an exhibition dedicated to Ilmars Blumbergs (1943-2016) featuring six eminent modern artists: Miķelis Fišers, Ansis Starks, Gints Gabrāns, Voldemārs Johansons, Sabīne Vernere un Andrejs Strokins

The organizers are the Art Needs A Space fund in the trendy Kalnciema quarter (Kalnciema Street 36/38 to be exact) which is a hotspot of classy bohemianism. Also, every Saturday, from 11:00 to 14:00 children are invited to participate in a book making workshop that will give them the cahnce to make their own poetic picture book.
