Take note – story published 6 years ago

This weekend you're encouraged to go to Cēsis for musical treats, or stay in Riga to see the opening of a modern art exhibition at kim?.

Classical music in Cēsis

The Latvian National Symphony Orchestra summer festival--though whether it's summer anymore is up to debate--titled LNSO vasarnīca is taking place in Cēsis from August 25 to 27.

It features three evening concerts including chamber music, new arrangements of classic rock songs, and shows for children. It concludes on August 27 with performances of Arvo Part by pianist Georgijs Osokins.

Rap crossover in Cēsis

Arturs Skutelis un Tvērumi will perform at Cēsis' Zaļa Zāle with an attractive performance of new and older songs.

Their debut, Audums, was named one of the top ten Latvian albums last year.

Skutelis is one of the best-known rappers in Latvia, famous for his erudition and crazy punchlines.

Modern art in Rīga

The kim? Contemporary Art Center on August 26 will open three new exhibitions, with a show by a photographer Ilya Lipkin, who was born in Riga, spent his childhood in the Purvciems district and grew up in New York.

It also unveils a project-exhibition “Retina”, based on a conversation between four art aficionados, as well as a solo show "I'm Only Streaming" by the Estonian artist Marco Maetamm.
