Three for the Weekend: Musical reading weekend

Take note – story published 6 years ago

Prose readings, music, and more in the events guide for this weekend.

Prose readings in Riga

After starting on Thursday with a well-received performance by five foreign authors, the annual Prose Readings festival is continuing strong on Friday with a bar tour slated with Latvian authors showing you around the hippest places in central Riga.

It starts at 8 p.m. at the Čē bar on Dzirnavu st. 82. If you don't know Latvian, too bad, but next week the festival continues with foreign authors attending as well.

Classical music in Liepāja

The Great Amber Hall in Liepāja is on December 1 at 7 p.m. celebrating Ēriks Ešenvalds' 40th birthday. Ešenvalds is an acclaimed composer and the Latvian State Academic Choir will be performing his pieces together with local musicians.

The top 100 Latvian albums

As you may or may have not noticed, we try to plug some content that still falls within culture but isn't actually an event each week.

If you're interested in local music, perhaps it may be the right time to look at the archives of the Top 100 Latvian albums by journalist Uldis Rudaks. It's still ongoing, with 70 of the 100 albums reviewed already.

A great part of these albums are available online for everyone. Discussion with people from the bands is in Latvian.
