Three for the Weekend: Musical weekend

Take note – story published 6 years ago

This week LSM suggests visiting the Laba Daba music festival, a rap concert or a free solo concert.

Laba Daba music festival

The University of Latvia recreational complex near Līgatne will from August 4 to August 6 host the Laba daba festival with over 90 performances by musicians and DJs.

Jamaica's U-Roy will be one of the special guests this year. He's credited with inventing the toasting technique used by reggae singers.

Scores of international and local acts will take the stage at the scenic location about an hour drive's away from Riga.

Laba Daba will take place for the ninth time. Several thousand people visit each year.

Schubert mania at Unguru Manor

The 20th Schubertiad will take place at the Baroque Unguru Manor on August 5 with a vast performance of Franz Peter Schubert's works by leading pianists, solo singers and lead by charming Gundars Āboliņš.

It is actually pretty close to the Laba Daba festival, about an hour's drive away from Riga.

Latvian rap at Andrejsala

Latvian rap artist Gacho is performing in Rīga's Andrejsala not far from the bank of Daugava River.

Gacho is a sight to behold, and his performances present a great opportunity to dance the night away.
