Three for the Weekend: Savage symphony

Take note – story published 6 years ago

This weekend it's all about music.

Riga Symphony

Riga Symphony is a youth music festival festival, giving the young, the bold and the talented a chance to gain some international music experience. The 2017 edition takes place from the 7th – 12th of December in Riga.

It's worth visiting just for the chance to see budding music talent that has yet to tackle the big stage.

Icelandic Symphony in Liepāja

Meanwhile Liepāja's Great Amber Hall will host the Iceland Weekend with a series of concerts performed by the pianist Víkingur Ólafsson and clarinetist Arngunnur Árnadóttir together with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daníel Bjarnason.

Pieces by Þuríður Jónsdóttir (we've no idea how to pronounce it either), Haukur Tómasson, Claude Debussy  and Daníel Bjarnason will be performed throughout the weekend starting Friday.

Sean Nicholas Savage, Annika Henderson in Ventspils

While the Kurzeme region, as you may have known by now, occasionally hosts superb concerts with foreign alternative music guests. This time around it's Ventspils hosting Sean Nicholas Savage, Annika Henderson and a number of other acts, including our very talented Evija Vēbere, in what promises to be a treat to those even with the most savage of appetites.

They are performing on December 9, 9 p.m. at Ventspils Jūras Vārti cafe.
