Invitation to 'picnic with the district'

Take note – story published 6 years ago

The 'Maskavas forštate' district of Riga is one of the Latvian capital's most interesting parts, combining a rich and sometimes tragic history with fascinating architecture and a reputation as a sometime haven for the seamy side of life while gentrification improves/spoils other districts.

Now a neighborhood center named 'T17' after its address on Turgeneva street, is inviting residents and everyone else to a picnic on August 27 to discuss the past, present and future of this fascinating suburb which has played a crucial role throughout Riga's history.

The 'picnic with the district' will take place on Sunday August 27 from 4 p.m. at T17. Local stories will be collected for inclusion in a special newspaper and a new website telling the history of many buildings in the district will be unveiled.

The project is organized by the "FREE RIGA" Association, which opens empty and unused buildings in Riga for public, creative and cultural activities.
