The historical theme is something of a departure for the alliance, which generally focuses on contemporary issues and military exercises, and comes complete with cinematic soundtrack and dramatised scenes of battles between the resisters and Soviet forces hunting them down.
There is also testimony from a former member of the Latvian forest brothers explaining his motivation for joining the resistance and an Estonian woman who was one of the essential civilian supporters providing the armed units with supplies to keep them operating for years.
A member of the Lithuanian military describes how the forest brothers continue to provide inspiration.
Unsurprisingly, the film drew immediate criticism from Russia's representation to NATO.
