Latvia to face Montenegro after Eurobasket win against Turkey

In a completely nail-biting game, Latvian national basketball team defeated the gritty Turkish side 89:79 (24:22, 23:16, 22:25, 20:16) in the closing Group D game at this year's EuroBasket.

Latvia has won four games out of five in Group D - winning four games in a row, for the first time, at the European Basketball Championships.

Latvia has therefore placed second in Group D, right behind Serbia, and will on Sunday play Montenegro in the next round, which finished in third place in Group C.

Kristaps Porzingis was once again the highest scorer today with 28 points, followed by Janis Blums with 17 points. On the other hand, Cedi Osman scored 24 points for Turkey, and Melih Mahmutoglu added 19 points.

Although Latvia was leading for almost the entire match, Turkey was always close on Latvia's heels. At one point after the halftime break, Latvia was up 14 points, but before the fourth quarter Turkey was four points down, and, at the beginning of the final stanza, just two points separated the two sides.

In the overall Group D standings, Serbia placed first, Latvia second, Russia third and Turkey fourth. Belgium finished in fifth place with one win, and Great Britain placed last with zero wins.
