As reported, Ostapenko dropped the first set and was trailing 0-3 in the second, but made a huge comeback to beat Romania's Simona Halep 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the final match at the French Open.
Ostapenko, who was ranked 47th last week, has become the first unseeded player since 1933 to win the tournament. Ostapenko, who turned twenty on June 8, has also become the youngest player to win the French Open since Iva Majoli (Croatia) in 1997.
This is one of Latvia's biggest achievement in sports so far, and first ever victory in a Grand Slam tournament by a player from Latvia.
