Yesterday Ostapenko scored straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-4 against Romania's Sorana Cirstea (WTA 54). It is the first time she has made it into the third round of the US Open.
Meanwhile Sevastova is also through into the third round after winning Serbia's Jelena Janković. She superbly went into the quarterfinals of the US Open last year after defeating No.3 seed Garbiñe Muguruza,
Ostapenko is to face Russia's Daria Kasatkina later on September 2 while Sevastova will be pitted against Croatia's Donna Vekić on September 1.
