Liepaja's Anastasija Sevastova won the Mallorca Open in three sets and just over two hours on June 25 - her first World Tennis Association title win since 2010. Even more remarkably, it comes three years after she briefly retired from tennis, citing a recurrent back injury.

Sevastova lost in the final of the same tournament a year ago, making victory on Sunday all the sweeter. Like her compatriot in Paris, she came back after losing the first set to her opponent, Julia Goerges of Germany.

With the Wimbledon championship in the UK just around the corner, Sevastova's grass-court victory in Mallorca will give her great encouragement ans ensure that Latvia's women are certain of a good deal of attention in south-west London.

The win also means Latvian players take up two of the top 20 places in the WTA's women's rankings.
