Revenue Service could offer tax advice in English

Take note – story published 7 years ago

The Enterprise Register and the State Revenue Service could start offering English-language tax advice and info on setting up a company in Latvia as part of the annual plan to improve the business environment in Latvia.

The plan, approved today by the Cabinet of Ministers committee but yet to be reviewed at government level, features tasks for ministries to improve the ease of doing business in Latvia.

According to the plan, an English-language website of the Enterprise Register will be opened by August 1, 2017.

Later on the registry could offer setting up a company in English. By July 1st, it's planned to translate the Electronic Declaration System - a one-stop website for paying and reviewing taxes - into English as well.

While the country's tax service could, by January 1, 2018 set up a special branch for consulting foreign clients in English.

Latvia will also consider allowing English-language bookkeeping and using currencies other than the euro in accounting, which would potentially require amending the country's stringent language laws.

Meanwhile, here's a current guide by LSM for setting up a company in Latvia.
