Anti-corruption expert: When politicians steal, they spit on us

Take note – story published 6 years ago

We lose our moral standards if we don't ask how the wealthy came to their riches, says Sarah Chayes of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in an interview to LTV's World Panorama series.

She has worked in Nigeria, Afghanistan and other countries and says that something is wrong with our perception of good and evil if someone wealthy is more respected for their riches than a teacher working selflessly.

In a lofty and far-reaching conversation with LTV's Imants Frederiks Ozols Ms. Chayes presents her views on the pervasiveness of corruption and the need to address its threats, which often come to permeate our daily lives, head-on.
