Online documentary: «Headquarters Ipiķi»

Take note – story published 9 years ago

Ipiķi is Latvia’s northernmost inhabited point right by the Estonian border. This film is a visual poem about the children and adults of Ipiķi, about how their life stories have been influenced by the place in which they live.

Jānis, Oskars and Samanta have taken over their older brothers’ and sisters’ “headquarters” to keep it going. They’re fixing up the old barn and collecting reusable boards from the old village hall still standing in the center of Ipiķi.

The elders of Ipiķi still remember the old days with reverence, but the youngsters just rip the boards out one by one and build their new house right in the middle of the village.

There’s no cinema hall in Ipiķi, but the headquarters cabin has a window that looks out onto another world. It’s a scene from real life playing on a living screen.

This is the third of LSM's inaugural English-subtitled series featuring the five winners of Latvian Public Television’s (LTV) documentary film contest 'Latvian Code'.
