Take note – story published 8 years ago

LSM marks the return of its Latvian Code - an English-subtitled series of documentary films selected in an annual contest held by Latvian Public Television (LTV). The last of the films to be featured online is Dzintars Dreibergs' depiction of the village of Lone, where a Finnish businessman has succeeded in helping the locals get to work with the proper good attitude.

The Finnish Guy in Lone. Documentary, Latvia, 2014

Director: Dzintars Dreibergs

Viktors is a businessman offering a unique range of services: in the canteen of the former state farm he has created a pub, a bakery, a spa, a hotel and the office of a travelling shop. Viktors also has a good knowledge of life: he knows the right ways to spend the day, and his words are justified, because the village, with a population of almost five hundred, has no unemployment.

Lone is a vibrant centre; there are young people; and almost fifty people run their own businesses in the surrounding area; in the evenings, residents from various generations come together at the pub. Viktors tells with pride of his business and the village.
