Latvia has a new ambassador in place in key partner Germany after Inga Skujiņa presented her credentials to President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on 29 August in Berlin.

During an official ceremony, the Federal President offered thanks for his recent visit to Latvia.

"The President commended Latvia’s pragmatic contribution to the facilitation of stability in the region and across Europe. The Ambassador and the President made note of the close and dynamic relations between both countries. Ambassador Skujiņa stressed that Latvia sees itself as a trustworthy partner to Germany in creating a united and strong Europe," said a statement by the Latvian Foreign Ministry, without quoting anyone directly.

Germany is Latvia’s second largest partner in foreign trade. In 2016, Latvia’s exports of goods and services to Germany amounted to EUR 1 billion.

Skujina was formerly Deputy State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
