There are only a few technicalities left to be completed for Latvia to enter the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), said Nancy Bikoff Pettit, the United States Ambassador to Latvia in an interview with Latvian Television's Imants Frederiks Ozols.

After praising Latvia's efforts in pushing through banking sector legislation, the ambassador confirmed that the United States fully supports Latvia's OECD accession efforts.

"There are technical requirements for joining OECD. It's my understanding that Latvia has actually met almost all of the technical requirements," she said.

"There are a couple of things that have to be addressed, but they don't have to do with the banking sector. They have to do with state-owned enterprises and the creation of boards for state-owned enterprises. But then again, Latvia is in the process of creating those boards," she said.

"I do fully expect that in 2016 Latvia will join the OECD," said the US Ambassador to Latvia.

The interview also covers topics like Latvia's efforts to fight corruption as well as the US presidential election and the country's foreign policy.
