Euro Commissioner Hogan given top state award

President Raimonds Vejonis on October 5 handed Latvia's top state decoration, the Order of  the Three Stars, to Ireland's European Commissioner, Phil Hogan.  

In a ceremony at Riga Castle, Vejonis presented the Order of the Three Stars to the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development. 

The  decision to award the Order of the Three Stars, Class III, and appoint Phil Hogan as a Commander of the Three Stars Order was made for his significant contribution to Latvia's decision making regarding the stabilization of the market situation," the presidential website said.
 
The President and Commissioner also discussed issues of equalization of direct payments to farmers and support for those affected by floods, a release said.
