LSM launches English-language service

From July 1, 2014 Latvia's united news portal lsm.lv will be providing content in the English language in addition to the existing Latvian and Russian language sites to reach an even wider audience.

And this is it!

"We hope to be an important new presence among the international flow of news about Latvia,” says lsm.lv portal editor-in-chief Marta Cerava.

“There is a large number of people, both overseas and even in Latvia itself, that may not have the language skills to follow regular Latvian and Russian-language media but which does have an interest in what's happening in the country. That number includes students, diplomats, businesspeople, tourists, members of the Latvian diaspora and even just random web searchers,” says Mike Collier, one of two editors working on the site.

The English service will not be able to duplicate all of the Latvian and Russian content, but aims to provide a steady flow of the main news stories plus some original content, such as a launch feature about the remarkable transformation of the former KGB headquarters in Riga into an art space as part of Riga's tenure as a European Capital of Culture in 2014.

Lsm.lv is the unified news portal of Latvia's public television and radio services, with a mission to deliver informative, accurate and engaging content.

We hope you find the new service of interest.
