EXCLUSIVE: Canada's commitment to Latvia is «protecting democracy»

Take note – story published 7 years ago

Canada's foreign minister, Stephane Dion, was in Latvia July 11 to confirm plans to send around 450 troops to the country early next year.

Dion came to Riga straight from the landmark NATO Warsaw Summit where reinforcements were announced for all three Baltic states in the light of Russia's worryingly belligerent mood.

While here, Dion spoke to Latvian TV's Toms Pastors in an exclusive interview on the reasons for the troop deployment, and how he expects the security situation in the Baltic region to play out in future.
