STRATCOM conference this week

NATO's Riga-based Strategic Communications Center of Excellence (STRATCOMCOE for short) is holding a two-day conference this week.

The event is titled The Riga StratCom Dialogue and takes place at the National Library July 5-6 with various strategic communications specialists plus an assortment of politicians and journalists talking about topics including information warfare, populism, technological threats and whether we will imminently be murdered in our sleep by robots.

Inevitably, quite a number of the sessions would seem likely to consider Russia in one context or another, given its recent role in using strategic communications and information channels in an aggressive manner.

There will also be a discussion the day before the conference proper at the Latvian Art Academy, which should be a highlight, as experts will be discussing what constitutes an expert and expertise.

This raises the possibility that maybe one of them will even admit to not being an expert after all, which, slightly ironically, would make their expertise on the subject all the more valuable.

Discussions will be in English and LSM will carry a live stream of the sessions that you can follow online. Read more about the agenda and background to the event HERE

And if you'd like to hear more about STRATCOMCOE, you can hear our podcast with Janis Sarts, director of the facility, HERE.
