Exit exams will be in Latvian only, says government

Take note – story published 6 years ago

On August 8 Latvia's government supported Education Ministry rules saying students at grade 9 and 12 will have to pass exit exams in Latvian as opposed to minority languages like Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, etc.

The new rules say teachers will also have to hold exit exams in Latvian. These rules were introduced as Education Ministry representatives had observed several teachers holding exams in minority languages.

There are 108 minority schools that will be affected by the new rules regarding high school exit exams (held at the close of grade 12) and 168 minority schools regarding exams held at grade 9.
