On May 26 the association members decided to strike however they had offered the Health Ministry to create a reconciliation committee. The offer was turned down, leaving doctors with the course of the strike action, said Veide.
The association consists of 1,160 general practitioners, which is the majority of all Latvian GPs.
During the strike, general practitioners will stop providing public-paid services and will only treat acute patients.
The doctors require a number of payment boosts to practitioners for services provided, as well as increasing salaries for nurses and assistant nurses.
One of their demands suggests GPs only want to start using the so-called e-health system only after its efficiency and safety has been proven.
Representatives of the association are due to meet Health Ministry officials for a meeting next week to seek a compromise solution.
