The threat of a bomb has prompted the Riga International Airport (RIX) authorities to cancel flights and evacuate the terminal for safety, RIX spokesperson Sarmīte Rinmane told LTV morning news program Rīta Panorāma Monday.
Neither arriving nor departing flights were operating through Riga as of 8:00 am, with arriving flights diverted to other airports. Slightly before 9:00 am airport staff were allowed to begin returning to the building as no evidence of any explosives was discovered following a thorough search by security services.
Latvian Radio reported that work at RIX could resume, including runways opening up again, by about 10:00.
