Christmas passed peacefully, say police

Take note – story published 7 years ago

The State Police carried out raids on Latvia's roads from December 23 to early December 27. As fewer people have died this year, police say that the holidays have passed peacefully.

"There were 253 traffic incidents in which 43 people were injured, including pedestrians," State Police Normunds Krapsis told LTV's Rīta panorāma Tuesday morning.

As the traffic statistics are just about the same as last year - with one person having died - the Christmas holidays can be considered to have passed peacefully.

"At the same time we have caught 77 drunk drivers. A further 11 were detained on suspicion of driving under the influence of narcotics," he said.
