Latvia's IT Security Incidents Response Institution, Cert.lv, registered five cyber-attacks on Latvian state institutions during EU Presidency, director Baiba Kaskina said Friday in an interview with commercial LNT television.

Cert.lv had been preparing for the Presidency for about a year to ensure security of the IT systems of the Latvian state institutions. "Generally, the Presidency passed smoothly. There were cyberattack attempts, but much fewer than we expected," said Kaskina.

At the same time there were five cases registered in relation to Presidency events. "There was a meeting of ministers and there was an attack on the respective Internet site at the same time. There were five such cases," she said, adding that it is hard to detect the origin country of the attacks.
