In flagrante monumento

There is never a dull moment in the Riga Municipal Police. December 9 the Latvian capital's cops released footage of their latest crimefighting success: the apprehension of a pair of tourists who decided to express their mutual affection in a very natural way at a very unnatural location - the Freedom Monument.

The footage shows the star-cross'd lovers indulging their carnal appetites quite literally in the shadow of Latvia's most revered landmark.

Warning, the footage below contains explicit knee-trembling action and is not for minors despite the thankful use of pixelation.

So don't watch it.

"They started with just kissing.... but then took things to another level," police said in their subtitles to the video, which give the whole thing a certain flavor of arthouse cinema.

"They told police they wanted to make love in an unusual place and didn't realise it was the Freedom Monument," police added.

The amorous adventurers, who were from Spain (Juliet) and Germany (Romeo), were caught with their pants down by police and issued with a 250 euro fine each - which they paid on the spot with their bank cards.

So tourists, for future reference: get a room! Riga has thousands to choose from, with even the very best costing less than €500.
