Latvian forward Dāvis Bertāns has signed with the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, the club told the press Thursday. Bertāns could become the fourth Latvian ever to play in the NBA.

According to reports, the 6 ft 10 forward has signed a two-year deal.

The 23-year-old Bertāns played for Spanish Vitoria Laboral Kutxa last season, averaging 8.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in ACB League last season, and 7.9 points and 1.9 rebounds in the Euroleague. His brother Dairis is playing for Darüşşafaka at the Turkish Basketball League.

Bertāns has recovered from two knee injuries over the last few years in his career but things have been looking up for him.

Bertans was the 42nd overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft, but has since been playing in Europe.

His fellow countryman Kristaps Porziņģis, who was thrust into the limelight last year after being the 4th NBA draft pick and leading a successful season, has already congratulated Bertāns on Twitter.
