Latvia plans to increase child benefits for large families starting next year, Welfare Ministry representative Marika Kupče told LETA Wednesday, reported LSM.

It's planned to raise the benefit from €34.14 to €50 a month for the fourth and all consecutive children.

The Welfare Ministry also plans to improve childcare for children without a family, by developing the support system for people who want to adopt, as well as by improving orphanages.

Benefits for people who've lost a guardian are also to be increased, as are social security payments made for people taking care of children up to one and a half years of age.

The Welfare Ministry has previously announced plans to increase child benefits to €15 for the firstborn, €75 for the third child and €105 for the fourth and consecutive children. The increase is to be carried out by the second half of 2019.
