National Encyclopedia has 400 entries ready

A team of seven people are at work on Latvia's National Encyclopedia that will be released next year as Latvia turns 100.

A total 400 entries have already been written for the encyclopedia, to be released both online and in book form. Work at the book, aiming to consolidate knowledge about Latvia, was started three years ago.

The team behind the book is lead by Valters Šcerbinskis and will feature articles about specific topics written by industry experts--each entry will have a byline--and edited by the team.

Last time a similar encyclopedia was made thirty years ago when Latvia was still part of the Soviet Union.

"An encyclopedia is a process not something ready-made. It means that an encyclopedia has to be at least 100 to really make a run into Latvian. We'll release the online version in late 2018 and it will have many things but it will grow each day with existing entries improved too," said Šcerbinskis.
