No es una buena idea, señorita!

Riga Municipal Police have released video footage of a Spanish student "answering the call of nature" at the Freedom Monument in Riga city center.

While similar incidents have occurred in the past, what makes this footage particularly noteworthy is that the offender in question is female and that her unfortunate sense of place for bladder relief was matched by an equally unfortunate sense of time: namely, the night of Latvia's independence day.

While the thousands of flowers festooning the iconic monument will certainly have added a thankfully fragrant aspect to her unfortunate unbuttoning, it only adds to the offense, which might perhaps be compared to taking a leak on the Giralda Tower of Seville or seeking relief against the wall of the Alhambra.

As the video shows, police were quickly on the scene to arrest the inappropriate Iberian.

"The policeman reached the young woman and found that she is a Spanish citizen who currently lives in Riga, studying at one of the capital's universities. The young woman immediately burst into tears and attempted to justify herself by saying she simply couldn't hold it in any longer. The lady regretted her actions and said that she had been led to perform her act out of desperation," police said.

In an impromptu lecture, police officers explained the importance of the Freedom Monument, and also mentioned that November 18 is Latvia's independence day.

The lady was issued with a penalty for petty hooliganism.
