Abols was appointed the hospital's CEO during a hospital shareholders' meeting on Thursday. He will start at the new post on March 24.
Abols, who is also a member of the board at the Foreign Investors Council in Latvia, has for the past twenty years worked in senior positions at GSK Latvia. From 1998 to 2013, Abols was GSK Latvia board chairman.
Abols has Master's degrees in business management and in public health and health management.
The previous head of the Children's Hospital was Anda Caksa, who is now the minister of health.
