Porziņģis to play in NBA Rising Stars Challenge

New York Knicks rookie and Latvian hopeful Kristaps Porziņģis will take part in the Rising Stars Challenge on February 12 in Toronto, reported LSM's Latvian-language service Wednesday.

The match, held on the weekend of the All-Stars Game, will have rookies and second-year players from the U.S. play against a roster of international players.

Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Porzingis, believed to be the leading candidates for the award this season, will play on opposite teams in the match.

Porzingis was a candidate for the All-Stars match up but fell about 100,000 votes short to participate in the Eastern Conference roster.

However there's still a chance that Porziņģis will be named as a substitute for the All-Stars game when the bench players are picked on Thursday.
