Military units of the Russian navy and air force were detected early Wednesday and late Tuesday by the National Armed Forces (NBS) and NATO's Baltic Air Police (BAP) pilots, the NBS reported through their social media news profile.

The latest sighting of another submarine and survey vessel took place Wednesday about 9 km from Latvia's border in the Baltic, inside its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

And on Tuesday the BAP scrambled jets into the air corridor over the Baltic to intercept an Antonov AN-26, which is a Soviet-era military transport plane.

The current count of identified Russian military units active near Latvia's national territorial boundaries now stands at 51 so far this year.
