Ukrainian soldiers coming to Latvia for fact finding and English lessons

Two members of Ukraine's armed forces will arrive for a week-long visit on November 1, in order to learn how their Latvian counterparts deal with unexploded bombs and to pick up information on a wide range of other topics, the Latvian Defense Ministry said Friday.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces members will visit the Explosive Ordnance Disposal School, as well get acquainted with the main Adazi base of Latvia's army.

They will also pay a visit to the 45th National Guard unit in Kuldiga and see divers in action at the Navy base in Liepaja before visiting the Latvian War Museum and the grim 'Corner House' former KGB headquarters.

As previously reported, Latvia has provided Ukraine financial support to Ukraine's military worth €50,000, as well as providing other forms of support, including medical and rehabilitation assistance to injured Ukrainian soldiers fighting against Russia-backed forces in the est of the country.

One Ukrainian officer has been sponsored to study at the Baltic Defense College, and practical training is also being provided for military psychologists and chaplains in Ukraine.

In December four Ukrainian soldiers will come to Latviia for an English-language course at the National Armed Forces Language School.
