A cyclist who was passing by saved a man from jumping into Daugava River off Riga's Vanšu bridge in the late hours of July 10. The woman first tried to talk the man out of trying to end his life and then grabbed and held him tight when he was about to jump into the river, the State Police reported.

The recording shows the man about to jump off the bridge just as a police van was arriving at the scene.

Police arrived to the scene after another bystander made a call shortly after 10 p.m.

The incident was captured on municipal cameras.

The would-be suicide is a 1985-born man. He was inebriated at the time and the police have yet to learn why he wanted to end his life.
