Municipalities also review water quality in popular swimming holes, and there are some places where swimming is not advised.

"According to latest information currently it's prohibited to swim at Lamaši on Lake Rāznas ... the water samples were bad at Daugava's swimming hole by the Taču st. in Dārziņi, as well as River Tumšupe in the Ropaži region and the Austriņu ceļš resort in Lielvārde," said Solvita Muceniece, a representative of the Health Inspectorate.

There are six official swimming places in Riga with municipal police present, along with two unofficial spots where rescuers are present as the places enjoy immense popularity.
