Will the snow never end?

Take note – story published 6 years ago

It's the middle of May and snow is still falling in Latvia.

Social media has been abuzz with pictures of the late seasonal snowfall, with even Riga getting a dusting of the white stuff early on the morning of May 10.

Weather forecasters say it is the latest snow has fallen in the year since the turn of the millennium, giving residents the unusual combination of a bright and sunny morning with cherry blossom... and snow.

Others faced the prospect of cleaning windscreens before ehading to work - a ritual more commonly associated with December and January.

In addition, six weather stations across the country reported record-low temperatures overnight for the time of year.
