"Let us remember Uldis Briedis of his stronger years. An excellent photographer without whose pictures the memories of Latvia through times is unthinkable. Passionate and crazy to hunt for a unique photo. [..] Always for his motherland. For Latvia, Latvians, us who are on the bright side," Uldis Briedis' wife Inta Briede wrote.
Briedis worked in photography of several press issues since 1969. In 1984 and 1988 he received awards as the best press photographer, in 1997 and 2000 he was named the best portrait photographer. In 2011 the highest state decoration – the Order of the Three Stars – was bestowed upon him.
Briedis' photos are included in the National Museum of Art's permanent exposition along with 11 other photographers. Until the end of June, his black-and-white photo exhibition is viewed at the cultural space Ola Foundation.
