Three for the Weekend: White Night, Poetry Days, Mushrooms

It doesn't at all seem like September, but annual beginning-of-autumn events and festivals are already here.

White Night

On the night of September 7-8, the art and culture forum "White Night" will take place in different neighborhoods of Riga, inviting you to stay awake a little longer and take to the streets to explore the unfamiliar, experiment, and see your city in an unusual light.

This year, the Forum is taking place for the 19th time, presenting 30 different events in the center of Rīga, Old Town, Jugla, Teika, Imanta and elsewhere.

There is a huge selection of installations, exhibits, performances, concerts and the like. You can view them all, as well as a map of the event, on the White Night's official website.

Poetry Days

The international poetry festival Poetry Days is in full swing, this weekend offering events such as a poetry disco (which is in fact part of the White Night festival but overlaps thematically) queer poetry readings, the annual walk with poets, and Latgalian poetry evening.

Poetry Days are running from September 2 to 14. The program can be found on the website but not all events are listed – you may want to search Facebook for Dzejas dienas.

Mushrooms

This Sunday is our favorite day – Mushroom Day at the Āgenskalns Market.

On Mushroom Day, the Latvian Mycological Society will visit the 2nd floor of the pavilion with an exhibition of local mushroom species and educational workshops for the whole family. From 9:00-17:00, a mushroom market will take place on the 1st floor of the pavilion, where you will find both fresh and variously processed mushrooms. Cafes will prepare mushroom dishes for lunch.
