Take note – story published 1 year and 1 month ago

The first weekend of October is here, bringing with it a more mysterious air leading toward autumn. Here are some ideas on how to explore it this weekend.

Sound Forest

The 21st experimental, avant-garde music festival Sound Forest/Skaņu mežs takes place on October 6 to 8 at the Hansa platform (Hanzas persons, Hanzas Street 16A).

Participants this year include Amnesia Scanner, Joe Morris, Raven Chacon, M.C. De Jong, Violent Magic Orchestra, and many others.

You can read more about the festival and check out the concert and event program on its official website.

Night of Fire at Vienkoču Park

On October 7, the annual Night of Fire takes place at the Vienkoču nature park (Cēsis municipality, Līgatne parish, "Vienkoči"). Fire will be explored through different means: installations of light, ambient and experimental music, a fire show, ritual, ancient dance, torch workshop, horse riding, open-fire cooking, and other activities.

Sigulda Children and Youth Literature Festival

For those with little readers growing up, October 6 to 8 is the time to head to Sigulda, where the first Children and Youth Literature Festival will take place. The program is created to show the diversity of literature and there will be events for each age group.

For the youngest readers, there will be an orienteering game, a stage play, a puzzle workshop, and other activities. Primary school-age children might be interested in the 'Cat workshop' with writer Inese Zandere, inspiration-seeking wth Estonian writer Reeli Reinaus, and mask-making with Lithuanian writer Kotryna Zyle.

Teenagers will be welcome to an exhibition, a play, free speech project performance, and unpublished work readings.

The full program of the event is available on siguldasfestivals.lv.
